I think I nailed this 11th July with the Arsenic & Old Lace reference.

Jeepers creepers! I may have been a trifle mistaken in my favorable assessment of the sweet little Old Lady and too quick to conclude from Monty’s erratic and hyper behavior that he was the villain. Unless that shadowy figure in the background of panel 4 is just the sweet little Old Lady waving a little French flag for Bastille Day….

I’ve always wondered that, too, EB – and what’s with the three-of-clubs?

Speaking of candles, I recently watched a British crime drama in which the hero cop ripped down a wall and found a shrine with lit candles behind it. No other way in. Full size lit candles, at that—they hadn’t even burned down in the time it took to put in the fake wall and wallpaper it over.

That’s because the modern day phsyco has switched over to Flameless candles.

I always wondered the best way to track down a psycho serial killer was to visit the local candle store and find out who bought a crap load of candles. They always have a room set aside filled with candles in those horror films.

3 of Spades – Breaks in relationships. Sometimes indicates that a third person is breaking into a relationship somehow. Misfortune in love or marriage. A loss of pride and hope. Do not dwell, move on in life.

In this case, the old lady looks like she’s about to break into the relationship between Monty and EB; or maybe the relationship between Monty and his head.

But its so obvious that its the little old lady. So by Monty logic (recall the biker like dude a few days ago?) – it can’t be the obvious choice. ….. so….…. so on that thought – it must be Pilsner! He came home to his cage, flying drunk and too low one night and smashed into the gnome. Moondog put the head back on and did a ‘shhhh’ to the bird.
