I went to a multi-year high school reunion in 2007, the jocks still hang with the jocks, the cheerleaders still hang with each other…..etc. Nothing really changed, we all just got shorter and fatter. Well most of us did anyway, there is always one or two that still have the same hair cut and still look exactly like they did the day they graduated. My 50th is 2017 and I DO NOT plan on going.
I have only gone to two HS reunions – both shortly after graduation. Now, there were over 500 people in my class, so I didn’t recall a lot of them, but not one person spoke to me.
When I was still working at Hopkins I had several patients who had been HS classmates. If they recognized me, they didn’t say so. Go back to visit that lot? No thanks.
Went to my 50th three years ago. It was a small school with only 100 in our class, and amazingly, more than 60 showed up! Our badges had our graduation pictures on them so we could identify one another LOL. Had a great time.
Well I hated my 45th – I missed a lot before that – but went to the 50th, enjoyed it thoroughly and have been very involved since. I hate to seem like a nag, but you have to put out the effort. No one spoke to you? Did you attempt to speak to anyone? The second time I took my digital camera and took lots of pictures, giving me a chance to have a least a few words with many of my classmates. Are there some who seem to be stuck back in time? Sure. But there are also a lot who can share a laugh from the past, as well as warmth for now. Sorry for the lecture, but you can tell I feel strongly about this.
Went to my 50th. The good looking football players got bald and fat. The cute cheerleaders had let themselves go. But those girls who weren’t too good looking in high school turned out to be stunning!
