It makes me uneasy that Gus is withholding this information from his daughter but shares it with Gene. Very “boys only” and “don’t worry the women”. Or at least “I think my child is a shrew and don’t want to hear her yap, even if this an impending life change for her.”No wonder his other daughter is estranged.

Siding w the in-law, asking him to keep secrets from his wife, and not telling a part owner? Yeah, this should go well…

My bad, I read that as his wife!

@bawana & @StoicLionHow is it not sexist and what makes it okay to have a “Guy Code”? Would you keep the closure a secret from your son? And what justifies a guy code when it is wrong to assume women should be shielded from business decisions that affect their livelihood? Great way to prepare someone for the fact that their passion, or for some just a job, is about to end, leaving them at loose ends. That makes a whole lot of sense in today’s world, where women make up the greater part of the workforce. Its called “survival mode” and a great many women operate at this level everyday, because for many, they themselves ARE the only source of income and support they can count on. Shutting out the very people these kinds of decisions affect is a great way to end a marriage and a family relationship, not to mention partner- and friendships.

Gibbs rule #4: If you have a secret, the best thing is to keep it to yourself. The second best is to tell one person if you must. There is no third best.

@StoicLion:I don’t think it can definitively be classified as sexist, but you certainly cant state at this moment that it is certainly NOT sexist. The material itself has strong implications. Gus won’t tell his daughter, who has 49% ownership, because he doesn’t want her to “cry” of “whine” but he’ll tell his son-in-law?At least we agree he’s being a jerk.

That is cruel of Gus not to tell his daughter about the closing. She should be able to plan ahead and he is withholding important information from her. Why wouldn’t Gene tell his wife something this important?
paultunes over 10 years ago
it makes no sense. in addition to putting a strain on Gene to not tell his wife how are they supposed to make plans for their family? where is income going to come from? will they have to move and pull the girl out of school?

If she has a 49% interest in the restaurant! won’t she get 49% of the earnings from the sale?

Odds on bet: MaryLu knows.

It’s not so much sexist as it is reverse-ageist. Gus doesn’t think his little girl could handle it.

I bet Luddy knows…..

It’s not like Mary Lou doesn’t know the restaurant is being sold. She also knows she has 49% interest in it. I’m sure Gene and Mary Lou are already making future plans and IIRC she has said she knows they will be okay after the sale. The only thing she doesn’t know is the exact closing date. Gus is not being sexest, he just knows his daughter.

Gus is a good guy.Gus means well.Gus has information we do not..Gus may be sexist if his actions are based on gender.Gus may not be sexist if his actions are not based on gender..To judge a person without knowing all the facts is prejudice, by definition.
