One of my first meals in Germany – we had ordered so much food (aka appetizers) that I had my steak and baked potato packed up to go. As we walked back home, I saw a (homeless) gentleman with a dog; so in my broken German – I asked if he would like my meal as I had not touched it. He thanked me, and as I walked away, I witnessed him give the steak to his fuzzy companion while he noshed on the baked potato. Made me feel good on both levels. Wish I could have helped them more – but as a poor US Soldier – I didn’t have much on me.
