“Wrong” Claire it’s a delicious Italian cheese just that has a strong smell. If you think that is bad. You never ever want to be around Limburger cheese (German cheese that smells even worse but is so delicious at least to my mom and me and my grandma and grandpa. The rest of my family would leave the room…dad, sister and brother. Then we’d start singing (me and my mom….the "we love you lim, we love you lim…..limburger cheese!
Limberger’s smell doesn’t hold a candle to the smell of liederkrantz. Fortunately (or unfortunately) the strain was destroyed during the Second World War.
Limburger really stinks, like something rotten But the taste is good. I remember eating some years ago and wondering how it could smell so bad but taste good. Gorgonzola tastes good and doesn’t have an unpleasant smell at all.

As for gorgonzola, its smell is rather mild.
