You are so right margueritem. I have a lot of good memories from fishing with Dad and with my grandpas. My grandpas are no longer here, but their memories are.
There were plenty comp games when I was coming through and I’m so glad I made some time for my family I miss them terribly now that their gone. I even went fishing with my grands and uncles and didn’t always want to, but I quess being the tomboy that I was I had something to prove.
One year, opening day, I was complaining because the kids had the previous week off and stole all the fish. A man turned to me and said, “I’d rather have my son poaching trout than using drugs.” I shut my mouth.
We had video games from about the age of 9 on. I admit I loved playing them, played them with all my friends and my mother (who was pretty amazing at some of them), but now I have very few memories of all that time and all those games, even with other people. Fishing OTOH, or hiking or camping- THAT I do remember.
Funny how it really isn’t just who you are with, but what you are doing that matters, when you look back on it.
I went fishing with my parents and hated it. I don’t like fishing in the least. But, fortunately, I was allowed to climb around in the nearby hills and enjoy nature. I liked camping; just hated fishing.
Our family wasn’t into fishing - Dad didn’t like to eat fish, Mom didn’t like cleaning them. However, we made time to play games together like dominoes, Scrabble, Monopoly, ping-pong, croquet, etc. Great memories!
I have very fond memories of going with my grandfather, my dad, my uncle, my brother and my cousins to grandpop’s fishing camp. The drive to the boat launch in the back of grandpop’s old Chevy pickup truck, punctuated by a stop for a cold Orange Crush or Nehi Grape drink, and then the 40 minute boat ride through the Atchafalaya Basin to the camp. I can still smell the willow trees, and see the water hyacinths. And the food they cooked while we were there couldn’t be beat by any four star restaurant. I wish I could go back to the camp now once in awhile, but they sold the camp after grandpop passed. Didn’t always catch fish, but always had a good time.
My experiences fishing with my father were similar to boghos68’s. Besides, I don’t like eating fish, and “catch-and-release” is pretty sadistic.
If the idea is for Sergio and Baldo to “spend some time together”, yeah, that’s great. But if the only choices are fishing and video games, I’m with Baldo on this one.

Sheesh Baldo, just try fishing already. There’s already a big rift between you and Papi.

Video games will never be as good of a memory as fishing with your pappi, Baldo…

I actually have some fond memories of playing video games with my Dad. Marred by the fact that he beat me…

I may be past my teens, but like myself, Baldo needs to get out more into the fresh (if not the smoggy of L.A. or the voggy of Hawaiʻi Island) air.
