You can’t just assume they were married in their twenties. For all we know, they were part of an arranged child marriage and didn’t even meet face-to-face until they’d already been husband and wife for ten years.
He said “if” they got married in their 20s. And what country are you from that arranges marriages and then they don’t meet until they’ve been married 10 years? Outer Elbonia?
Even if they had marriage arranged when they were still children, they would still have married when they were of age, isn’t it so? Alternately, I have heard of child marriages where it really means that a rich family wants a cheap maid for their young son – in that case, the girl would naturally meet the boy whose messes she needs to clean up.

Some guys, I am convinced, get married for the “back-up memory” so they don’t have to store birthdays, phone numbers, how to spell the grandkids’ names and a million other petty details of life.
Bwhahaha. FUNNY. When i was in my 20’s we were playing the game Scattergories with my mom and dad. The category was “Term of endearment” and the letter was “i”. Everyone fell on the floor laughing when my mom and dad both showed what they had put. Idiot. :~D

Now I/we know how long Earl and Opal’ve been married: half a century. Which means they’re in the 70s if they got married in their 20s.

As Aunty Acid said, they’ve been married so long, they often finish each other’s sentences – usually with “Oh, shut up!”
