Katy: How's it going? Adam: Okay. I'm trying to recreate my piles of stuff. Laura: So you're un-filing? Adam: In your mind I am. In my mind, I'm reestablishing a more visible, memory-based organization system. Laura: So you're re-messing. Adam: Potayto, potahto, Laura. The world is my filing cabinet.

Neatness is for people who are too lazy to look for things.

I thought I invented “Reverse Vertical Chronological” filing.

My sister is the same way, she’s misplaced important documents like birth certificates several times. I may not be the neatest person in the world but I keep my paperwork very organized.

I think I’m organized. Then, when I can’t find something I know I had in the past, I have to think in reverse chronological order, hoping I can remember the event!.That rarely works, so I just go to the store and get another one. Then, of course, I find the missing item; now, I have two…

Adam – please don’t use my little part of the world as your filing cabinet. I have enough stuff of my own here.

Just yesterday I spent an hour looking for a staple gun in all of the likely places before I thought to look in the tool chest. Organization is just not natural.

A clean desk is a sign of a sick mind. – - work has this ‘clean desk’ policy. It does not mean a clean desk. It means ‘sensitive’ material is locked away at the end of the day, as it should be. … I’m a little worried. There are an awful lot of clean desks at work..and.Out of chaos comes order. From order comes chaos…Out of Chaos comes Order. From Order comes Chaos… Out of….. now where did I put that note about order/chaos?

In real life, it has in fact happened before that someone thought they were doing me a favor by organizing my things without telling me first, only for me to have to rip it all back apart in order to find X specific thing that they “organized” and forgot where it went.
There was actually one day where I had to dig through the trash because someone presumed that a bunch of gift certificates were “junk mail” despite my having them in the same spot as the bills and other important mail.
I’m always “ungrateful” in their eyes for not appreciating their efforts.
