Got to love the Conservatives – No matter what Obama is for they are against it. He could allow drilling for oil in the Grand Canyon, and they would oppose it.
We are overly dependent on foreign sources of energy. Europe, which we love to show how advanced they are, uses nuclear energy for much of their needs. Japan use it extensively. Studies have shown that by far the most efficient source is nuclear. Far far better than wind, sun, coal and oil.
I posted this elsewhere, but the real problem is low-level waste: contaminated clothing, filters, replaced parts, sludge, etc. This cannot be reprocessed like nuclear waste (assuming we wanted that much bomb-ready plutonium available, which we don’t), and it totals 2,400 to 22,000 cubic feet per unit per year. We have more than 100 plants now. Add it up.
There is a guy back home who was pushing this idea of magnetic energy. It was like a pyramid scheme and you gave only $5 to be one of the people who got a free motor (or whatever) so that your electricity was free, but the rest of the proceeds went back to the inventor. My husband, said No way that could work, so we didn’t donate the $5, much to the shock of the guy pedaling the idea (it was only $5, after all). The originator of this plan was quite convincing–he had a video and dressed in a lab coat to show that he was legit and explained how his invention would work. He went to jail and everybody in our area was out $5, but, hey, it didn’t break the bank.
