Ah… at least they’re practicing on a proper FOOTBALL pitch, then. Now they just need to figure out what game to play, and with which ball…

Guess I was wrong.

When I was in school they used to say that the metric system would eventually take over in the US and it still hasn’t happened. It’s going to be the same way with American football.

1. The metric system is MUCH easier to learn and is not based on a king’s digits or the distance from your chin to your outsrtetched hand or other arbitrary measures.

2, Why not call soccer futbol and call the “other” football and be done with it? Futbol started before football.

Lots of wishful thinking, but soccer will never catch on in the US. It is just not part of our cultural makeup.

“Next year, I think I’ll keep track of the time the ball is in play [in baseball]. My bet is that it will be greater than the live action in an NFL game.” Back in 1985, when the Bears won the Super Bowl, a local TV station got the rights to re-run the two playoff games during the dead week. They cut out huddles, timeouts, and all that time when everybody just stood around doing nothing. With commercial breaks, the two games together didn’t fill an hour.

Back when Tom Landry was the Cowboys coach, the team dressed nicely for travel and were well-behaved on the plane. Soon after he was fired, things changed drastically. Now they are slobs and act like hooligans. We’ve stopped watching them play.
