Late comment from yesterdays strip, I felt it has universal appeal:

(commenter) said, about 23 hours ago-How can you smell that something is free, Joe?

A lot of people comment on this forum. They post comments here free of charge. Sometimes their comments stink. Ergo, a person is smelling something that is free.

“Cherokee isn’t an offensive derogatory label.”.“Redskin” didn’t used to be, either, at least not where I grew up. Oh, there were some who “spat” the word to indicate their racial hatred, It wasn’t the word that implied bigotry, but the tone of voice. Any other word referring to the same group could be given an equally derogatory inflection. In fact, I’ve heard that done with “Native American”..Meanwhile, I’m sure the Redskins team was not so named because its owners and fans wanted it to be reviled. Why should they have to give up their intended meaning just because someone else chooses to abuse the word? At this rate, it won’t be long before the PC fanatics demand that everyone named “Peter” or “Dick” be forced to change their names.
