My mom used this same strategy whenever my sister or I tried “running away” – it generally worked very well at making us change our minds.

Mom is not worried as Ruthie is a drama actress and used to Ruthie’s drama.

I can’t recall ever playing at running away like this; I knew that I had a pretty good deal at home. But I think the days when it was considered cute and nothing to worry about are long gone. Now people get worried about even letting their kids run around the neighborhood.

My mom actually helped my older brother pack a bag when he wanted to run away! He made it a block…

My mother made me a sandwich. Since I had to be home when the street lights came on, my “running away” didn’t last long!

The real issue here is, what does Mom want with Miss Avis of all people?

I remember The Partridge Family when Chris & Tracey ran away. Mom figured they’d do what the older kids had done, go up the street to Mrs. Monahan’s, have some brownies, forget why they were mad and come home. Instead she gets a call from Reuban saying Chris & Tracey are here with a cab driver who wants to be paid.
