Call it a washroom, that’s at least one of the things you do in there.

In Europe, just ask where the toilets are. That makes more sense and is understood by everyone. Restroom and washroom can confuse people, but as much as “bathroom” is a misnomer, I have been finding that people abroad have come to understand it when dealing with foreigners like Americans.

Why do we park in a driveway and drive on a parkway?

Why do some call it a restroom? Nobody actually rests in there…

Let’s face it! English is a strange language.

I read once where, in one family, when a child was done in the bathroom and needed assistance, they were taught to say “J’ai finis!” So learn French, or Latin.

In “The Lumberjack Song,” he says, “I go to the lava tree.” I wouldn’t want to unzip close to that thing.

I prefer the term, sh**er (or Shatner)

Lavatory just means a place to wash. You can do that at the sink or in the bathtub, but it’s still only about getting washed up.

I blame the Victorians. They were very prudish when it came to words. It wasn’t chicken thighs and breasts but dark and white meat.

Scandinavians call it the toilet. I prefer that.

I always loved the term “water closet”. “Hey guys, where do you keep your bottled water?” “It’s over there, in the water closet.”

Ruthie, you are so silly with words. Never gave the bathroom the thought you brought up.

I don’t see anyone named “John” in there either, Ruthie.
