We also lived next door to one set of grandparents. When we rented the house next door to my parents (I was within 10 days of my due date), I was expecting to look for daycare when the time came, as I grew up with my mom telling my sister and I, “Don’t expect me to take care of your kids. I’ve done my share.” So, while I was on maternity leave, I started looking into daycare. My mom then said, “Why pay for daycare? I live right next door.” It’s funny how parents attitudes can change, once they become grandparents. LOL We did get part-time after school care when my daughter got older, but she still spent a lot of time next door. Well, so did I. We decided to get a house next to MY parents as opposed to my husband’s parents as he liked my parents better than his own. :o)
Nope mom does not trust you 2 to be on your own.Only parent we live close by husband’s mom, she was too old to take care of small children, my husband is older then I am, she had him close to age 40. She was in her mid 80’s, her older son 14 years age difference, she had great grandkids. I did not live close by as next door to my parent’s, so I envy Joe and Ruthie living next door. Then I felt my parents raised my sibling and I, now their turn to live life, yet I heard parent’s did have grandparent’s help with the grandkids while parents work. Cheaper then day care.

Or one of their grandparents could stay at Joe and Ruthie’s house.

I wasn’t a latchkey kid because we didn’t lock the house.
