Thus sealing Timmy’s fate as a server at the Golden Corall.Servers bring water and take your drink order…….or so I’ve been told, not that we’ve ever been there. (moot point, there aren’t any in our area)I must remember to pre-order Timmy’s book: My Life and How It Went Horribly Wrong.Well worth the 20 year wait.
I guess that, according to Burl at least, spelling and proper grammar are useless, too. Matter of fact, SCHOOL is probably a total waste of time in the Gospel According to St Penny.
Jeez, that attitude makes my blood boil. My S-I-L convinced our smart but impatient daughter that she didn’t need a college education (like her) to be happy and successful, (unlike her) so she quit literally as we were moving her into the dorm. 28 years later she regrets it. Spent her business career training new college hires. The abusive treatment of Timmy is a flash point for me.
Burl probably thinks any math beyond 3rd grade is useless, because he doesn’t understand it.
Anything he can’t use or learn, in his dim understanding, has no place on the planet, because he can’t conceive of any higher intelligence than his own.
Showing him an algebra book is like showing a fish a pair of scissors. Same response: Huh?
That earthquake was 30 miles from me… my bed shook and it woke me up.(It was earlier than it is right now, but I’d gone to bed an hour before.)
A few little things fell off shelves…. not much.
Very few people get hurt in earthquakes that far away…. I do have a friend who lives much closer to it, and lots more fell off her shelves… but that’s all.
Meanwhile I had a few long phone calls from people out of state…. and some other things to do.
I knew that x_Tech had kindly posted that I was all right…. I didn’t realise some hadn’t seen it, or were worried, and I didn’t get a chance to get back here….
So…. I’m fine, my place is fine…. my utilities were not interrupted….and I’m sorry I didn’t report in.Thank you all.
Might Burl’s answer have been even worse? E.G: many cartoons have the “large & in charge” character making some smart-aleck retort like: “Oh, that’s some sort of rash you could get on your skin….kinda like poison ivy….you smear on lots of Calamine Lotion to get rid of it”. At least Burl knows that it’s something to do with higher math!! Hope floats in Crustwood!! Happy Monday!!
I use algebra maybe once a year but that doesn’t matter. What matters is that I have it when I need it. Also, understanding things in one discipline helps with understanding other disciplines. Knowledge, once learned, is yours forever. What Burl doesn’t understand is that the same is true of ignorance. And he’ll be ignorant forever.
Glad you’re OK, Susan. We don’t want to lose your great wit here. I’ve tried to get my new guy to participate in the fun here at GoComics because he’s also very punny, but so far he’s been too busy.
I like that he’s in so many clubs; I plan to join some of the same and some others. We’ll share lapidary and silver work as well as the square dance I’m learning now. He joined my recreationist group and we love the camping events (when a bird was my companion, I needed a room but he has a tent and all the rest).

Wait, I always thought ALGEBRA was “useless math with letters instead of numbers”!Fortunately, after I got through that, geometry was fun.
