Yeah, but I got the cats because I wanted them to keep the rabbits from eating my hollyhocks, which were all chewed down to the base last summer. This year, with three cats, I’ve got lots of hollyhocks, but I also have a dead squirrel in a plastic bag in my trash can. Does anyone know how to teach cats that rabbits and mice are fine, but squirrels are a no-no? I even tried visual aids, but I think they have ADD.
We used to praise our cat for catching rats and gophers but not for birds. He rarely caught a bird after that. Praise, at least for him, was a better reward for catching the varmints. Not sure you can totally break them of hunting a specific animal but you can make it less rewarding.

To be a psycho stalker killing machine, one must first be cute and fluffy.

Either the cat has killer instincts or the mouse tastes better than the food she provides.
