    Shark fins can sell for as much as $400 a pound for use in shark fin soup. The fisheries that participate in this hunting work in international waters, which are not regulated. They catch a shark, cut off its fins and throw the shark overboard. It dies without its fins to propel it through water. Since sharks reproduce later in life and then only one or two offspring each year, many species are in danger of extinction.
