@Puddlesplatt McLearn.Precisely what I was thinking. The little yellow duck was clearly not alone. He was placed there by someone else (possibly a serial killer or some gruesome creature of the woods) as a decoy to instil a sense of false safety in the tent dwellers before the final attack.
