Calvin and Hobbes by Bill Watterson for September 01, 2014
Transcript:
Calvin: "Mom wants me to make my bed. Come help me, ok?" Hobbes: "Ok" Calvin: "You get some pencils, and I'll get some big paper!" Hobbes: "I thought we were making the bed" Calvin: "And do all that work?!? No, we're going to invent a robot to make the bed FOR us!" Hobbes: "Won't inventing a robot be more work than making the bed?" Calvin: "It's only work if somebody makes you do it"

Maybe you should shock your Mom, Calvin,by making your bed before she has a chance to tell you to make it… ;)

ORMouseworks, there was a storyline where Calvin created a “good” version of himself that did all his chores, homework, and was even nice to Susie. One of my favorite C&H lines comes from that storyline, where the good Calvin says, “I am NOT Calvin, I am the physical manifestation of Calvin’s good side,” and Susie says, “If that were true, you’d be a lot smaller,” and good Calvin says to the reader, “You wouldn’t believe how many times I’ve heard that.”
Zero-Gabriel, Sony, et. al., want us to be impressed with their dancing robots. I keep saying to the videos, “Show me one cleaning a toilet and then I’ll be impressed.”

uh oh! Calvin’s making it ‘we’ and ‘us’ again. It should be ‘I’ and ‘me’.

Is he not in fact a somewhat hidden dual personality who, especially when alone (with his alter ego of course), applies quantum physics to risky ventures ? His parents should hire a PI solely to observe him. At the very least a very interesting little guy, thanks a lot to his creator.

Work at what you love and you’ll never work.

My brother-in-law works at what he loves: drinking beer, lying on the couch and is on the dole.

So, Mom, take a hint to make it fun: Tell Calvin you are magically turning him into a robot that makes beds!

All work and no play makes Calvin an inventor.

An imaginary robot may not be good enough for mom, Calvin. I don’t think she fully appreciates Hobbes’ abilities yet.

Calvin’s comment in the last panel is a direct descendant of Mark Twain’s observations about work in ‘Tom Sawyer.’

Unfortunately that is not going to work Calvin dude. It is also more work. At the office I create an excel program for all my accounting functions. at first it is more work but in the long run it saves me work and time.
