Calvin and Hobbes by Bill Watterson for September 03, 2014
Transcript:
Calvin: "Hi, mom. Can I look at your wallet for a few minutes? I, uh, want to see something" Mom: "Hold on. Did you make your bed like I asked you?" Calvin: "I'm working on it" Mom: "As I recall, your bed is in your room" Calvin: "I'm inventing a robot to make the bed, but I need a grant. Can I have $50?" Hobbes: "What'd she say? Did you get the money?" Calvin: "Boy, when we're the cover story of popular mechanics, I'll have some choice words to say about family encouragement"

Here in western Illinois we have a long list of Missouri jokes. And they give us plenty of material to work with!1. Only recently did they take a law off the books that required an operator of a tractor to place planks on a bridge before crossing. (Goes back to when tractors had steel lug wheels ā decades ago!)2. Until a few years ago, it was legal to shoot an LDS member! (Though, I suspect that if someone had used this as defence, a jury would have still convicted)

The bed-making robot has already been invented. It is called a sleeping bag. Just get out, roll it up, and stuff it in your pack.

@Tacopielvr: Itās too bad that people come to GoComics for humor and relaxation, and then often end up arguing over highly emotional issues. I guess thereās sometimes a fine line between comedy and tragedy.

Willard Duncan Vandiver (1854ā1932) was a member of the United States House of Representatives from the state of Missouri. He is popularly credited with the authorship of the famous expression: āIām from Missouri, youāve got to show me,ā which led to the stateās famous nickname: āThe Show Me Stateā.1 In an 1899 speech, he declared, āI come from a state that raises corn and cotton, cockleburs and Democrats, and frothy eloquence neither convinces nor satisfies me. Iām from Missouri, and you have got to show me.ā
