I wish it worked that way – because I’d stay on the rim, let the idiots jump in. Truth is, the politicos tell everyone to jump while they see who will jump – politicians never put their own butts on the line.
Actually, they force him into jumping in and take all his money. When he tries to refuse, because it will kill him, they make him out the bad guy. That’s our current form of democracy.
You know, the initial goal of democracy was to have the intelligent guy be the one in charge. When our nation first started, you could not get into a position of power unless you were educated, which is still true to my knowledge. The people who truly understand how economics works are supposed to be the ones in power, because they’re the ones that can make informed decisions. Sadly, politics has turned into a popularity contest over the years. It became less and less about “what will you change to make this country better” and more and more about “what outlandish promises will you make that we both know you won’t keep”.
Reminds me of the last four and a half years. If you don’t do things like other people, irregardless of right or wrong, they want to do away with you.
Actually, this is a misunderstanding of Democracy. What you’ve pictured is more oligarchy or tyranny. In a Democracy, a public informed about, say, volcanos would make a decision about which representatives were best to form policy on avoiding them. Representatives would then discuss the pros and cons and put together a policy that would be a combination of approaches that would, in the end, protect citizens from volcanos.
@ all the “democracy” folks above: We don’t live in a democracy. The US is supposedly a democratic-republic, but lately it’s pretty much just a republic.

I said it before and I’ll say it again…the fatal flaw in democracy is that you have to let all the IDIOTS vote too!
Democracy is the second worst form of government-the number one worst is: EVERYTHING ELSE!!

Today, the nuts don’t want to jump into the volcano. They just want to throw in the Obamas.
