Even a twentieth of the Finks income would be a very large amount.

No, you fink… I mean Your Highness. The Lord God has always said one-tenth.

But twenty is twice as big as ten, so what’s the problem?

FYI, Fink. Doubling one tenth is one fifth.

I’m surprised the Fink didn’t just levy a tax on the church now he knows they are extorting so much from his people.

“Should five percent appear too small, be thankful I don’t take it all. Cause I’m the tax man, yeah, I’m the tax man. And you’re working for nobody but me.” Taxes, tithes, just another one of those wealth redistribution schemes. One takes from the middle class and gives to the poor, and the other takes from the middle class and gives to the rich.

Tithes are not taxes. they were given to maintain the church and to support the poor and orphans and maintain the priesthood which had no land among the tribes. Tithes are gifts meant for God and God’s purposes, not the support of the state. David and the kings were not to touch the tithes, though David took grain once while he was fleeing from Saul. One of the reason’s Jesus overturned the moneychangers tables was that they conducted state business on church property. The priests were NEVER the rulers of Israel.

Tithes like taxes rely on guilt for every day enforcement. God’s purposes? Decided by whom?

I read the cartoon and thought to myself, Goddamn it, I’ll bet Doty is going to try to “correct” the King!

Say, Joe, was that really you the other day explaining you had come out of the closet? If so, then THAT would be something non-obvious for you to explain to us.

(Hi Dale! I didn’t know there were any other HBL-ers on this site. So why am I the only person I’ve seen here who ever talks about you-know-who?)

The difference between taxes and tithes is that taxes are forced, tithes arent.
