Danae: Ok, Lucy...tellme if this is good enough to get everyone off my case... A-hem "Sorry if you mistook something I said as somehow being offensive. Now everyone should stop dwelling on the past and just get over it." Lucy: Sheer poetry. Danae: And the best part is, I can use it over to fit any occasion!

Where is Victoria when Joe needs her?
Danae finally did it - she got Lucy to blank out. Way to go, girl.

Mistook? She will become a politician.

Enjoy it while you can, Danae. Once Joe gets married, your whole world will change!

It’s even more weaselly an apology than it looks. You can’t mistake something for being offensive – offense is in the ears of the listeners, and they know their own feelings – and “somehow” makes their feelings out to be unreasonable. So Danae’s “apology” puts the blame on the listeners for stupidly having illegitimate feelings. (Stinky booger-brained boys, no doubt.) Yikes….
She’ll end up a politician or a trial lawyer, for sure.

Couldn’t Danae have come up with something more original than the “apology” that politicians have been using for years?

A form letter appology. Good idea, Danae. It lloks like this won’t be first one you’ll be making.

I’ve been telling people for years that “I’m sorry you feel that way” is NOT an apology. Now I can just hand them a copy of this!

Danae is too smart to get into politics, the real money is in consulting or P.R. work, and she will be a natural.
halavana almost 15 years ago
Wow. I’ve had students that tried that. High school students. Danae is really progressing toward becoming a full fledged queen of denial.
vexatron1984 almost 15 years ago
She needs an apology speech for her apology speech.
mancocapac almost 15 years ago
She’d be a great politician if only she’d remove the apology from her statement.
Learn to apologize without actually apologizing!
georgelanigan almost 15 years ago
Something tells me she will be using that speech alot over the years.
dflak almost 15 years ago
No politics for her. Politicians are never wrong. Therefore, they never have to apologize. It’s our fault if we haven’t the wit to understand what they meant.

Now we know where Tiger got that speech…

NebulousRikulau: I think the whole point may be that what the politicians say is childish. There are a lot of “adults” who act like moody, spoiled 9-year olds.

Danae’s channeling politicians!
Didn’t Tom DeLay make that same “apology” that about 5 years ago, after he praised Strom Thurmond’s segregationist presidential campaign of ‘48 (“We wouldn’t have a lot of the problems we have today, if (Strom) won the election”)? You know, just before DeLay resigned from Congress?
Forget spanking Danae, spank the politicians.

“Just get over it” is always a nice touch in an apology….

Lucy’s reaction expression in the third panel is classic.
