Reminds me of an old Steven Wright joke about his dog who started to worry when heard that the price of dog food was going up $1 a can. It seems that is $7 in dog money.
Plus many cats are lactose intolerant. When I first read about it I found the irony amusing. My cat would lick milk off of my daughter’s fingers. He had a medical condition that required special food and BOTTLED! water. The tap water here had too much magnesium in it for him. We had health insurance for him. When he got sick at a year old it cost $1100. The insurance reimbursed all but $300 plus it covered 100% of his shots & yearly physical. When he passed away I found out they also would pay for me to have him cremated. I was too distraught over his death & I never understood keeping anything in a jar like that. The vet gave me his collar and I kept his favorite toy. My husband had everything else removed by the time we got home. He had stopped breathing on the way to the vet. They got him breathing, but he was without oxygen long enough that it would have been bad for him. They let him go back to sleep. The vet sent flowers and the insurance a condolence card. Geez It’s been a year and a half and I’m still crying while typing this.

That is terrible. The cat could have just been feeling under the weather and wanted some alone time. I hope that the ASPCA at least examined him before euthanizing.
Thank you everyone. I had animals all the time when I was growing up, so I lost animals before. This time I just don’t know why I can’t move on. Maybe because he was our only animal. We rent and are not allowed pets. My girls rescued him 2 weeks before Christmas when he was a few weeks old, so I was his mother. He was a brat…lol Hated everyone but me. The vets had warning labels on his charts. We kept him hidden for over ten years. We had already been renting the house for 8 years when they brought him home. When the tornado hit I was terrified we’d lost him. The ceiling had collapsed on my bed and in the kitchen over his food. He had been napping with me before it hit. I finally found him trying to get all 24 pounds into the tightest corner of the girls’ room. Their room only had a few nail pops, so I moved his stuff in there until we could take him to a friend’s place while the house was repaired. He lorded over everyone from the stairs. He’d reach through the bars to smack ya. Like I said, a brat. Anyway thank you all for your posts and for putting up with my long-windedness.
@felinefan55I am so sorry for your loss!! I lost my beautiful little Holly 2 years ago, & still mourn. She was adorable to & with me, but hubby & I called her “Spawn of Satan”, because she was 4 lbs of unholy terror to the other {larger!} cats. Full grown, she was about the size of a 9 mo old, with fluffy black fur & green eyes; gorgeous! When she heard my car, she would come down the sidewalk & roll over, looking all adorable, to greet me! She had inoperable throat cancer – inoperable due to its placement & her small size – so we had her put to sleep. My heart goes out to you, felinefan!

Our cat, Socrates, disappeared last night. Full moon and owls or coyotes most likely. She was always in at 9. Sad at our house today.
