This is an argument that will not die. In the original release of STAR WARS, Han Solo shot Greedo under the table to avoid being turned over to Jabba the Hut. By the time of the rejiggered edition, George Lucas decided that this made Han a cold-blooded killer rather than one of the heroes. So he tweaked the scene, and now we see Greedo draw and fire first, so that Han is shooting in self defense.-—————————————-This matters oh so very deeply to many fans, who long to see movie justice to done by restoration of the original intent. Others wonder why any fans would prefer to have Han shown as a casual killer. I lean toward the latter, and am pretty sick of the controversy.
Frankly, it doesn’t matter who pulled the gun first. Han was ready and shot first or else it would have been a short movie. And he was supposed to be a shady character or else he wouldn’t have been in the cantina in the first place.
I vaguely recall – Greedo was ready to draw and fire. Solo already had his weapon drawn and ready. – A high noon, face off in the middle of the street. Whoever has the quickest and most accurate draw – lives. Remember – at the beginning, the movie was more western than anything else.and somewhere in the story – Solo discovers he has a heart and a conscience. That he likes (most times) being one of the good guys. Thus redeeming the character in the eyes of the audience
