Arlo: I'm too stupid to know why half the buttons on this remote are here!
Janis: Here are the instructions!
Arlo: I didn't say I was ignorant! I said I was stupid!
And the truth is, on some remotes (cough… Comcast), a few of the buttons don’t do anything. I found some instructions on the Internet to “re-program” one of the useless buttons to skip ahead 30 seconds, a very useful function.
I just love the “Help” or “FAQ” section of anything. It NEVER answers the question I have, one reason being that it isn’t programmed for anyone with the vast ignorance I have. Like it’ll say, first do A, then B. IF I KNEW WHAT BUTTONS TO MASH TO DO A OR B, I WOULDN’T HAVE TO ASK FOR HELP!!
Once again, J.J. has been peeking in our windows! Honest to goodness, this is true – just yesterday my husband discovered the function of the “DAY” button on the cable remote. (It advances the cable guide forward one day… I know… dur!) We just had never used it before. There is a slightly more involved process that you see on the guide screen, and it never occurred to us that the day button would do the same thing. We had a good laugh at ourselves, and promised that we wouldn’t tell anyone how stooopid we’d been. (So, this is just between us, ok you guys?) And, it was the Day button! Hereafter to be known as the “Arlo” button!

Janis should know by now that real men don’t read instructions; just like they never ask for directions.

Not understanding the remote isn’t stupid. It helps to keep you from spending most of your life in front of the idiot tube. Works with me.

What’s the difference between ignorance and apathy?I don’t know, and I don’t care.

Maybe neither ignorant nor stupid—many of the buttons are just not applicable in most cases. Don’t fool around with them unless you understand them.

Instructions are what I read to figure out what I did wrong.

They’d be lost in our house. Our TV remote instructions are stored in the TV, which you access with the remote (somehow).
