Cathy: We can't meet with our accountant until we get our finance under control! Irving: Do you wait to lose weight before you go to the gym?? Clean the house before the house cleaner comes?? Dress up before you go shopping for new clothes?? Cathy: Yes! You're so observant! YOU should be the one to balance all of last year's bank statements!! Irving: What?? Cathy: I also win the argument in my mind before I even start conversation.

Which is why a man will never, ever win an argument with a woman. She’s already thought the whole argument out to its conclusion before she’s even said a word!

someone predicted last week that after cathy ended her adventure at the department store, they would begin the series on filing the income taxes….. sure didn’t see THAT coming! now, how did they know that?
my own prediction: soon it will be time for cathy to buy a bathing suit

Oh sure men fight smart; and they always get in the last words…the last words being, “Yes, Dear.”

Yes, Cathy! Make that lazy lump work for food!
I wonder how much of her money he spent last year? It’s only fair that she makes him see first hand how much he and his hoarde of squatters cost her. Look how mad he is that he has to do something!
Ohhhhhhhh, the yearly Cathy bathing suit shopping week makes my eyes hurt!!! My bathing suits last for years, Bathing suit styles never change. A bottom, and a string top with 2 triangles. Why must SHE torture herself EVERY year like that? I don’t know.

I agree, MrsLuke! I was just watching last night’s “Simpsons” - where Homer says if his father (quoted in the newspaper) is interesting then “the whole world is upside down; that must mean “Cathy” is funny! (turns to comics page) Nope”. Even the writers there see that it just never is any more… I still read it, but it’s definately not a fav ;-) Just quotable once in a while…

The only funny thing about this strip is that I know real people like this.
I must admit, though, that I do clean up before the maid service comes in, but that’s only to hide the embarrassing stuff…

I think Cathy is still funnier that FBOFW! That one is NEVER, EVER funny. At least we all see the absurdity in Cathy’s life, and so does she. FBOFW attracts the real life Ellys and Connies and the Anti-Ellys and the Anti-Connies. The comments couldn’t be clearer about that. The Elly’s and Connies are the ones telling everyone else to “shut up”, “go away” and “get a life”. The only thing the Anti Ellys and the Anti-Connies have to laugh at over there is our own comments, becuase we get it, and the crazy behavior being defended by the ones yelling “IT’S JUST A COMIC STRIP!”. I find THAT bizarrely hilarious.

Sorry Irving, you never had a chance……now, where’s that calculator?

Very sorry, MrsLuke. I sit to a strange angle to the keyboard sometimes. FBFW is (I agree) also never funny, but I thought the Simpson’s reference to the other funny. I read both just to see what’s going on, and I guess that I somewhat identify with grandma Edie (although I now hate travel and left my BF in Chicago and now do not date… Today has been busy on my PC because I joined Facebook this weekend and had to share the computer all last week with my daughter and teen granddaughter.

Oh Irving, of course she would do all of those things – why should taxes be different? I think the obsession with shopping just illustrates the American obsession with buy, buy, buy – we’re supposed to do that to fix the economy. The fashions and especially the bathing suits are always exaggerated, but when I go look at some of the stuff in the stores, they aren’t exaggerated that much any more. Maybe that’s why it’s not so funny – we’ve gotten used to looking at designers attempts to catch our intrigue and all it does is bore us. I still get a laugh out of Cathy, but it would be more fun to see her interacting with friends again – rather than just Irving and his dumber than dirt parents.

Vldazzle I saw how that happened. Don’t worry. : )
I knew you either grabbed the word I called Irving, or you were calling Cathy Mrs. Lump, lolol!
I missed that episode of The Simpsons. I’ll see if I can find it online.
