You are so right, Elizabeth! But back then it was still allowed to present the Christmas Story. Today, one would think that Santa was having the birthday… I suppose this will happen within most of our lifetimes…sigh… ;)
@ORMouseworks – I certainly know what you mean. Then my grandchildren went to a Catholic school and the Christmas pageants and decorations are back! To me the decorations were one of the best parts of Christmas.
I think I was in grade three when I was cast in a school Christmas pageant as a wise person. I was told to wear my bathrobe as a costume, but my mom was so upset by its frayed condition that she hurriedly made me a new one out of striped material — much like the robes worn in Christian-Hollywood flicks. Though my behaviour wasn’t particularly saintly, I wore my pageant bathrobe for years, pretending I was right out of the Bible!
I have much less history reading this cartoon than you; what is a repeat for many is new to me. So I don’t understand the phrase ‘those awful Nichols kids’. Please explain.

If you’ve ever been to Bethlehem (PA), the star on South Mountain is really pretty.

Who knows? No one who was there recorded the facts.

Not to worry, Lobo — we repress the Christian part of Christmas here in Canada just like you do!

Thanks. Didn’t know that Annie’s last name was Nichols…
