I used to warn my cat ahead of time, by imitating the sound of the vacuum cleaner with my voice. He got it…He would give me a PO’ed look and then head out the kitty door.He would also leave when he heard the accordion or banjo case snapping open. :-)
I think the vacuum is akin to a clicker trainer. I wonder if Nate and the guys know this??The dogs could be trained to learn about it, but it’s more fun this way… :-) :-)

My cat was always one jump ahead of the Hoover. One jump over and headed for cover as far as he could get in the apartment.
