Arlo and Janis by Jimmy Johnson for November 14, 2014
November 13, 2014
November 15, 2014
Transcript:
Janis: I used to write so many checks every month!
Janis: Now, we pay almost everything online!
Janis: I must admit, it's relatively painless!
Arlo: Yeah, painless like major surgery is painless!
Donât like the instant payment for service, lights, gas etc..We still write checks, never have trusted the I-net for my personal transactions..But I do buy nearly everything with my Discover card...Have a bunch of bonus dollars I just donât use, yet.
If thatâs not a joke, the statement is daft. Do some research and youâll find that that is a normal orthographic process thatâs been going on since we had any idea of âcorrect spellingââŠ
For Janis, instead of writing out checks, writing out envelopes and looking for stamps, walking out to the mailbox, now she just pushes a couple of buttonsâ-painless!.For Arlo, he has to go to work (he does have a job doesnât he?) and earn the money for Janis to spendâ-like major surgery!
Actually Arlo, Major Surgery is painless. The pain comes during the recovery period. :(And regarding the evolving language. I believe it was in an episode of âThe Outer Limitsâ, where a future soldier somehow travels back in time to âourâ time and, for a while, his speech canât be understood until they figure out that he is shortening words and phrases.
I donât trust the internet either, considering how much computer breaches have been in the news lately. Old fashioned bill paying through snail mail works fine for me.
gaebie and @Flossie MudduckIf you go back to the arc of last week, both have jobs, her co-workers husband had a heart attack and Arlo has mentioned his views on his job in the past. Although they did not clearly say what either do.
funny I wrote first check in nearly 3 years the other week and just written second today â no worries about transferring lots of money to wrong account
Jimmy Johnson did a poignant series about Arlo at work some years ago, where he reflects on his friendship with a co-worker. Nothing happens, but it was a realistically written series, and very interesting to read. Sorry, no idea when these ran.
I wish this âcat hating poopholeâ would quit reading and commenting on this comic. Sounds angry, evil and a typical âif it gets in the humans way it must DIE.â

I do my part for the Postal Service I just use cashier checks instead of personal ones. My financial institution offers them for free as a perk.

Arlo has that right. I have never finished a conversation with a anesthetist.

This begs the question, what does Arlo do for a living? Mr. J.J. after having followed your strip for 20 years I believe I have a right to know
