I don’t think that’s quite what the writer meant, but at least it’s different.

Back in college someone would yell, “I’ve GOT IT!”Others would yell back, “Penicillin’ll cure it.”(but it often wouldn’t)

This sounds like the Fat Broad of the Johnny Hart era. Credit to the grandsons, a good Hart-laugh today.

…and then they’ll have obesity as well. (Read Missing Microbes, by Dr. Martin Blaser. He raises what seems like a pretty obvious point – if industrial farmers are able to spur meat animals to rapid growth by giving them antibiotics, wouldn’t antibiotic use also increase our growth rate? Blaser’s studies have shown that that is likely indeed happening. Excessive antibiotic use may also be helping spur the recent surge in diseases such as diabetes, as well as the increase in allergies to foods such as gluten and nuts. While the discovery and development of antibiotics has been one of the primary reasons that people now live longer, they are now prescribed for countless reasons, including as a preventative measure. We also ingest residual antibiotics anytime we consume animal products from industrial farmers or water that has tainted by industrial farm runoff. These antibiotics impact not only bad bacteria, but helpful bacteria as well (we rely heavily on friendly bacteria for our very survival; broad-spectrum antibiotics are like dropping a bomb in the middle of a battlefield – you’ll kill not only enemy troops, but friendly troops as well). Scientists are just beginning to uncover the negative consequences of the changes that we’ve been causing to our “biome”; this relatively unknown issue could actually prove to be one of the greatest concerns that we presently face.)
