Betcha Dad would say that even if Calvin was watching “A Charlie Brown Christmas”, surely one of the most beloved holiday specials of all time.

Well if the tv channels did not show commercials there would be no money made and if there is no money made there would be no Christmas specials. Or is there no logic in that statement?

Anybody remember the ’Folger’s commercial about the young man making it home from college(or the military) early in the morning and making coffee to wake up everyone(except his little sister) ? Pure commercialism but you couldn’t fault the sentimentality ! ! !

I learned to watch TCM long ago. Those commercials every 7 seconds were getting to be a buz kill.

I remember the old days when there were only 3 fairly interesting and well made commercials to break up a half hour show that was actually well written, not some reality crap. And, of course, watching it was free. Today’s TV and the high cost of cable for hundreds of unwatchable channels is an embarrassment to the intelligence of the human race. Don’t miss it at all, and find it annoying when I am at someone else’s home. Calvin’s dad and I would get along just fine.

Calvin’s dad can be a pretentious jerk when he feels the need to insult others for enjoying a form of entertainment that’s not what he likes — in this case a child presumably watching a children’s TV program. He mistakenly seems to think there is some great inherent intellectual value in something just because it is in the form of a novel. Someone else could just as easily mock him for wasting a lot of time reading pointless silly fiction.

Anybody notice the CRT TV and the rabbit ears antenna? He should ask for a new TV and cable service. Then he could have a dozen stations that are nothing but commercials.

You can tell that this cartoon must be years old (from 1994). The amount of scheduled program you get to watch nowadays is about 3-5 minutes before it’s interrupted by greed driven, waste appealing, salaciously slanted advertising, depending on which channel you select.

I was exaggerating just a little, but I don’t think that much. On some shows the commercial breaks seem longer than the regularly scheduled program sandwiched in between.
