Speaking as a health care practitioner for over 30 years, I can tell you that the system that Obamacare replaced was broken beyond repair.

Most people do not realize they are one heart attack away from being homeless.

So, what do the Republicans want to replace Obamacare with?

So far, the most prevalent answer I have heard is “nothing”.

I have been told of a bill proposed by three Republicans, and was given the means to read it. It basically kicks the can and turns over any authority to the states.

First off, block grants to states almost never go where they are intended to go. Pay attention to the tobacco payouts: see how much of that money is going to prevention education, as the law states.

Second, the health care system in this country was broken, and broken very successfully, by the insurance industry. Part of this strategy was the purchasing of Congressmen to ensure they would do the bidding of the insurance industry.

Insurance companies would salivate over this plan, as it will take far less money to purchase state legislators.

One other downside is what we found before Medicaid benefits were standardized: people would actually move to states where benefits were better. This system is not a positive.

So, no doubt, we can improve. But repeal and do nothing is not an improvement. If you can’t (or won’t) go forward, there is no sense going backwards.

That comet’s going to start running backward in January, if they even agree to come back to town instead of on a break.

I once saw a very interesting car bumper sticker that read, “REPEAL OHM’S LAW!!”.
