There’s nothing like puppy noogies to help along the healing process!

Poor Red…he looks soooo sick! But he has a great companion to share his misery with. Dogs’ hearts are so sweet! ;)

Any dog that I would have had would not be comforting me, they would be demanding to go outside for some fresher air.

My previous dog knew when things were not going well for me. He would come over to me, no matter whether he was sleeping or in another area of the house, and sit by me. If I did not acknowledge him, he would nuzzle my hand. And if I still ignored him, he would put both paws up on my thigh while I was sitting, until I assured him everything was OK. Then he would walk back to his rug or pillow. Best dog ever.

(Given the time period of this strip…) When he’s sick, he gets his favorite companion: the TV in his bedroom! Oh, and the dog too.

John Smith: Yet another white meat. A Lakota friend of mine agrees, but didn’t want to make a habit of it. “On the rez” it is often a necessity.

@YankeeClipperMy cat, Hoover, does the same. I rely on him as a health sentinel. (And some years ago I had a cat who knew my every mood … it is really difficult to feel blue when your cat licks your nose.)|And my cat count has gone up to two: a couple of weeks ago I discovered a stray. I took her to my vet to see if she had a chip—no—and to verify her sex. Turns out that she was malnourished; a couple of weeks of decent food and water have done wonders for her health. Nice adolescent girl—maybe 2 years old—next is to get her spayed.|Cats and dogs are soooo cool!

Dogs and cats, maybe dogs more than cats know when you’re feeling bad. My BBD (big black dog) Gibbs just lays his big old head across my lap and gazes at me with those soulful brown eyes. They’re angels in fur coats. Love them!!
