Whoever the poster was who guessed that the next arc would be a big New Yearā€™s party, where weā€™d get to catch up on where the rest of the cast is, I guess youā€™re the winner!!

I think Luann is leaving out the most important thing: sheā€™ll give her Mom and Dad a night out at the movies, and then a small party in an Irish pub!!! ;)

I just want to say that I hope everyone (who celebrates Christmas) had a very good Christmas filled with joy, family, and friends! On Christmas Eve day, I scratch-made a cheesecake (got the recipe from Juniorā€™s at Brooklyn, whose cheesecakes are world-renown). Then went to Christmas Eve service (our church tends to be a little rowdy, just the way I like it!). Went to bed after that because I was really tired ! Christmas Day I got up late and got ready to go over to my sisterā€™s. I swear that cheesecake gained 5 pounds between my house and my sisterā€™s house! We watched movies and had a really nice Christmas meal (made by my brother-in-law!). Got back home just before the new comics came up on GoComics. So, I had two really great days, and now it is time to start counting the days before New Yearā€™s Eve! I wonder if Luann and friends will really have a New Yearā€™s party that will be enjoyed by all! (Minus hard alcohol, of course!).

Gathering = no booze, food, or music.

Maybe board games and Charades, and a bathroom break on the way to the real party?

Frank, if you want to increase the chances that this gathering will be sane, mature and sensible, just invite Luannā€™s kindergarten kiddies. All of their parents will appreciate the chance to go out for New Years Eve while having the youngsters looked after by the newly adults.there will be much less chance of the rowdiness of the teens when the littles are all hanging around.

If, as Luann says, the guests of her ā€˜gatheringā€™ will all be mature, sensible people known to Frank, then they canā€™t include anyone she just met at college. (Unless she introduced them to Frank at times not shown to us). -So, Iā€™m trying to figure out who the guests might be? Maybe the nice little retired lady whose house Frank and Nancy bought (canā€™t remember her name right now), who gave up Puddles when she went into a retirement home?-Who does Luann know who can be described as mature and sensible?

Thanks for the name. And I remembered later that Luann had actually given up a cat to Mrs. Horner, when Frank ended up showing an allergic reaction to the cat and Mrs. H was gently trying to explain to Luann that she was being self-centered in keeping the catā€¦

This is not going well, Luann. Could it be that Frank has heard this kind of pitch beforeā€”that a dad is actually world-wise?!

A party where nobody does anything college students typically do at parties? Ooh, someone might fall asleep! No wonder Frank is uptight!

Itā€™s very interesting to see the reactions here when itā€™s Tiffany planning a party vs Luann planning a party. That being said so glad theyā€™re in college and canā€™t seem to make any new friends.

Maybe this ā€œmatureā€ gathering will include Mrs. Berger and Mr. Gray, who will promptly adjourn to a bedroom and not be seen again for the rest of the evening.

Luann only knows mature people ā€” even the chilluns ā€” so any gathering would be mature and cerebral

So, mature and sensible, huh? And I didnā€™t think Evans would bring Dirk back. But he fills the bill, now that heā€™s changed. He, Brad and TJ can have a nice sensible, mature reunion.

The most mature and sensible character in the strip is Rosaā€™s uncle, because heā€™s had the good judgement to stay completely clear of their Peruvian misadventure.
