@johnzakour, @Thomas Scott RobertsRita seems to be in bed with that tyrant Narendra Modi, whose followers are even now beginning their forced conversions on pain of death all around India. If that tyrant has his way, this Christmas will be the last one India ever celebrates before all the Christians in India are purged…

Yeah, I’m not sure why it’s a big deal to work on Christmas if you don’t celebrate the holiday, and to have off the holidays that actually mean something to you without having to feel like you have to explain yourself. I’m Jewish, by the way, and work on Christmas and Jan 1, and am perfectly happy to do so. And I take off for the Jewish holidays. In the USA, I am required to use personal vacation time to do so. So if Rita wants the non-Christians to work on Christmas, and let them have their own holidays off, I see no problem.

Because my daughter is an adult, when I worked in a call centre, I was told that I didn’t need Christmas off because I didn’t really have a family life. Then I would go in to work and be sent home because no calls were coming in and the centre was overstaffed. By that time, everyone had taken off to their respective family celebrations and had a few drinks,, so I spent a couple of Christmases alone.

Rita’s not thinking about it all that deeply. She’s just looking for a way to keep the productivity up.

This is a very cool, thought provoking thread!

Maybe it is time for businesses to give holiday time off and let those who celebrate Christmas use the time on that day and those who celebrate other festivities on their special day.

It sure makes sense to me but then corporate and sensible don’t seem to go together these days.

I worked at a power plant, which is a 24/7 operation. Some of the shift workers would want to be off for holidays so I would cover the shift if I could. After all holiday pay for me was 2 1/2 rate.

Consider – Winter Solstice and the Spring Lunar (whatever) Festival were celebrated for thousands of years before the Church hijacked both festivals. Now we have Christmas and Easter. <b

Seems our ancestors celebrated the same festivals. Nice, isn’t it?

I have only one adult child and my family is all local so I work all the days around Christmas so others can take off and we still have office coverage.

In public safety(or the military) you get used to working holidays & weekends. Goes with the territory. Get over it.
