Coming Soon đ At the beginning of April, youâll be
introduced to a brand-new GoComics! See more information here. Subscribers, check your
email for more details.
Speaking of saying something importantâŠâŠ.OK, after reading yesterdayâs comments, some of which have now been deleted, itâs time for Calvin and Hobbes commenters to begin being civil to one another. We all have a lot in common. We all enjoy Calvin and Hobbes. We all have a sense of humor. If we canât be friends on that basis, then we donât belong here.Political discussion is fine if it is relevant to the strip of the day, but only if the posters have respect for people of differing opinions. If even Calvin and Hobbes fans canât be civil to each other, then there is very little hope for our governmentâs political process, and we have no right to criticize our politicians.Perhaps many of us are here because we relate to Calvin from our own childhoods. Thatâs also fine, but we are adults now. When it comes to how we conduct ourselves on this site, itâs time for all of us to grow up and stop acting like the six-year-old that Calvin represents.I think that there is a huge silent majority out there reading these comments, but on days like yesterday, the comments tend to get dominated by a few negative people. When that sort of thing happens, I would encourage all of you to speak up and take back this site for what it was intended to be â a place for Calvin and Hobbes fans around the globe to enjoy communicating with one another. Donât let a few people ruin it for all the rest of us.Your friend, HobbesClick here (or stretch image): Calvin and Hobbes (August 8, 1992)Click here: Peanuts (October 20, 1958)Click here: Peanuts (October 23, 1958)Click here: Pearls Before Swine (March 7, 2002)Click here: Peanuts (December 25, 1965)Click here: Calvin and Hobbes (July 14, 1992)
Man, I missed all the fun yesterday. Oh for the wit and wisdom of an exotic doc, the insights of a nightgaunt. (They probably donât realize I am being sarcastic). I agree with every sane person here, we need to keep the comics free of politics, and not allow ourselves to feed the trolls among us.
Iâm not saying we gather âround the collective glow of our monitors and sing Kumbaya, but most of us get the idea.
I read yesterdayâs comments: all that political head-tripping. Oh well, there are those who could make political issues out of a strip like âThe Meaning of Lilaâ. I mean politicizing shoes and all that. Or her shallow bar encounters with men that Boyd would like to meet, and so forth.
Can we have Hobbes comment repeat every day for the next month or so? It might begin to sink into some of the more âdedicatedâ politicos around here that their comments are (95% of the time) inappropriate.
Thanks, Hobbes, for your wisdom and ability to verbalize how so many of us feel about the vitriol spewed by comic strip commenters. Hope it works and the snarking stops.
Thanks Hobbes!! Now if only someone would clean it up over at For Better or For Worse. The thing I dislike there is that commenters constantly attack the cartoonist â with accusations of everything from âhating menâ to not telling her stories right. Itâs amazing to me how arrogant folks can be.

I notice Calvin has a book open on his desk. I used to get lost in a library book in class, sometimes. Wonder if he has a comic in there?

Calvin was just daydreaming, as is his wont. Usually, itâll go something like: âEeeesh, only 9:05! Iâll NEVER make it through THIS day!â

SunflowerGirl100 about 10 years ago
Agree completely, Hobbes. Very well put. The political comments really spoil the fun of reading a comic.

I learned not to look at the clock all the time as it only made the day drag even more.
