I hope, it was an enjoyable daydream.

Speaking of saying something important…….OK, after reading yesterday’s comments, some of which have now been deleted, it’s time for Calvin and Hobbes commenters to begin being civil to one another. We all have a lot in common. We all enjoy Calvin and Hobbes. We all have a sense of humor. If we can’t be friends on that basis, then we don’t belong here.Political discussion is fine if it is relevant to the strip of the day, but only if the posters have respect for people of differing opinions. If even Calvin and Hobbes fans can’t be civil to each other, then there is very little hope for our government’s political process, and we have no right to criticize our politicians.Perhaps many of us are here because we relate to Calvin from our own childhoods. That’s also fine, but we are adults now. When it comes to how we conduct ourselves on this site, it’s time for all of us to grow up and stop acting like the six-year-old that Calvin represents.I think that there is a huge silent majority out there reading these comments, but on days like yesterday, the comments tend to get dominated by a few negative people. When that sort of thing happens, I would encourage all of you to speak up and take back this site for what it was intended to be — a place for Calvin and Hobbes fans around the globe to enjoy communicating with one another. I fully agree with Hobbes.

@HobbesI quite agree. I often read the comments to glean a little more humor from the commen’taters’ but am unimpressed with political tripe.

BTW… I’m really impressed by the assembly of stripes that are on topic!

Man, I missed all the fun yesterday. Oh for the wit and wisdom of an exotic doc, the insights of a nightgaunt. (They probably don’t realize I am being sarcastic). I agree with every sane person here, we need to keep the comics free of politics, and not allow ourselves to feed the trolls among us.

I’m not saying we gather ’round the collective glow of our monitors and sing Kumbaya, but most of us get the idea.

I notice Calvin has a book open on his desk. I used to get lost in a library book in class, sometimes. Wonder if he has a comic in there?

I read yesterday’s comments: all that political head-tripping. Oh well, there are those who could make political issues out of a strip like “The Meaning of Lila”. I mean politicizing shoes and all that. Or her shallow bar encounters with men that Boyd would like to meet, and so forth.

Can we have Hobbes comment repeat every day for the next month or so? It might begin to sink into some of the more ‘dedicated’ politicos around here that their comments are (95% of the time) inappropriate.

Calvin was just daydreaming, as is his wont. Usually, it’ll go something like: “Eeeesh, only 9:05! I’ll NEVER make it through THIS day!”

Thanks, Hobbes, for your wisdom and ability to verbalize how so many of us feel about the vitriol spewed by comic strip commenters. Hope it works and the snarking stops.

Agree completely, Hobbes. Very well put. The political comments really spoil the fun of reading a comic.

I learned not to look at the clock all the time as it only made the day drag even more.

Thanks Hobbes!! Now if only someone would clean it up over at For Better or For Worse. The thing I dislike there is that commenters constantly attack the cartoonist — with accusations of everything from “hating men” to not telling her stories right. It’s amazing to me how arrogant folks can be.
