imo most people who use the word nimrod have no idea of the biblical reference, nor do they care or even think about it. it’s just another word for an idiot.

The Bugs Bunny link sounds plausible. So Nimrod is used in the same way that people use the name Einstein.

Sounds like Alex Williams is making references to R. Crumb’s Illustrated Book of Genesis, (it’s supposed to be based on the truth) that emphasizes a fierce bi-polar god, spread seed, tear it down, spread seed, tear it down, ad naseum. Not to mention they lived for centuries, Sarah was 90 yo when she had her first kid.

Don’t go to Watersmeet, Michigan (UP) and use the name, Nimrod in vain. There are a lot of Mighty Hunters up there who are proud of that name. I hope Mr. Trudeau will cease using it in a negative sense.

I agree. The creators of Looney Toons @ Warner Brothers were very literate, and I suspect that Bugs’ comment was intended to sarcastically demean Elmer as SUCH a mighty hunter. r
