I looked up negative space once. It’s one of those things that I think I understand while I’m reading the explanation.

As Mel Brooks taught in History of the World Part 1, every birth is followed by afterbirth

Negative space is when the space between objects in a picture make another identifiable shape. Classic example is the picture of two faces where their profiles make the shape of a vase between them.

Some of these comments are great. I wish GoComics offered Thumbs Up or Thumbs Down buttons on the comments so other commenters could agree or disagree with them.

So all-in-all, what does negative space have to do with cave paintings? Anything in particular? What’s the joke? Are cave paintings a historical record, or an attempt at art?

I wish folks would stop being so negative about the comic…

I like the definition in music..Hard charging chords and lyrics..and then…a silence break..then drum solo..to begin the chorus again..
