P4: Poor form on the follow thru. No forward lean. If Gil had a pitching coach, this kid might be allright. Who cares if he is channeling his inner Larry Dierker (former MLB player).
While I wouldn’t expect Whigham to get the mechanics perfect, bearwku82, your points are valid.
grshprnh: I’ll wager the kid’s throwing mechanics are better than yours. Everything about the arm, forearm and wrist positions are correct. Take a look at some still shots of pitchers sometime.
Hmmm… I thought it was The Band. Dave Mathews has also recently covered the song. Not exactly the hum of a big time fastball. Ok, is this storyline over? Let’s get back to Cassie getting plunked the first time she steps into the batter’s box!
The problem is Coach Kaz and Gil will cut Derek from the team when it becomes clear that Derek’s song choice tips pitches. Either that, or this goes on throughout the summer and in that case, let’s play “Name that Tune”. Anyone have guesses for the next oldie but goodie from Derek?
“Long Black Veil” has been covered by a lot of people - Van Morrison and the Chieftans had a good version too.
Tomorrow he will sing “Chestnut Mare” by the Byrds:
“I’m gonna catch that Cassie if I can, and when I do I’ll give her my brand, and we’ll be friends for life, she’ll be just like a wife, I’m gonna catch that Cassie if I can!”
Written by Danny Dill and Marijohn Wilkin and first recorded by Lefty Frizzell, covered by Johnny Cash and probably every country and western and folk singer ever. Joan Baez’s is the best. I’m thinking these boots were made for walking as he walks in the winning run in the championship game.
thejudge… Thanks for the Roger McGuinn flashback. Saw him do Chestnut Mare with David Bromberg in Midland M in the late 70’s in one of the best concerts I ever attended.
Anyone going to the 4:30 game with West Falls today?

Wow! Four panels today. I feel so lucky to have 33% more story. That’ll really advance the plot.

Somehow you knew it would come down to singing while pitching. How about drums for the catcher now?

thejudge called it yesterday! I’m not familiar with the tune, but if it was Gram Parsons it would be the greatest call ever!
thejudge said, about 21 hours ago
Singing while he pitches a la Orel Hersheiser.
Though instead of “Bringing in the Sheaves” Derek will be singing some obscure Gram Parsons tune.

Derek’s next tune will be a very special dedication to Cassie - Hank Williams’ “Your Cheatin’ Heart.”

I LOVE that song. I’m used to hearing it sung by Jerry Garcia.

Next song will be Blowin In The Wind as balls go sailing out of the park and Milford loses 27-1.

OK, I take it back – a Dead version of any song is a friend of mine. Maybe next will be “Mama Tried”.

Cassie is definitely ending up with Slim Chance by the end of the season. And she’ll end up ok with the other girls after she gets the winning hit!!!
