Iâve got it! Itâs not the dead manâs scent that Sandy smells. Itâs something that the dead man had on him, and Junior stole some of it. The dead PI still had some in his pocket. Junior had some in his pocket at the ice cream truck.
David I think was close⌠its not the dead guy on jr. Sandy is picking up.. itâs Jrâs sent on the dead guy he smelled⌠and no matter how much you wash you canât wash you own sent away⌠and as far as how his sent stayed on the dead guy it can happen even in water if he was just floting there
Lying there on her bed
Thoughts of murder in her head
Annie plays it close to the vest
It may turn out not be for the best
Papa I fear, once he finds out
May put Annieâs life in doubt
A deep dark secret hiding is he
Adding to this murder mystery
Annie should now make it known
What Sandyâs nose may have shown
Though the evidence is not concrete
The investigation it may help complete.
Okay, the fact that Annie has decided to wait to reveal her news is a huge clue as to how this will progress.
(Maybe everyone already knows this.)
The old man quizzes junior about the dog some more, and finds out he was with a young girl.
So the old man tells him heâll have to go get this girl and silence her.
Thus the adventure really gets heated up.
You read it here first (even if you did already know it.)
Earlier last month I thought someone ought to comment on the viable improvement in Ted Slampyakâs art work, and I did
Someone âstrongly disagreed with me, even using superlatives. They are entitled to a different view but, one wonders how objectvie he was.
While there are several âtechnicalyâ. better artistâs in the comics (e.g. June Brigman - Brenda) Yet theyâre ârefreshingâ art techniques Slampyak uses in a pronounced manner, thatâs pleasing to the eye - and not so openly evident in other work.
1) The perception of âmovementâ and action. e.g.See Annieâs head on April 30.
2) Depth of vision and sudden âClose upâ contrast (e.g.- excellent example Sunday May 2, with view of Harbour scene sharply contrasted next, against âclose upâ of fallen Ice cream cone on the road).
Closer observation will also reveal that he has no âfavorite body positionsâ that are repeated ad nauseum, which would likely contribute to a FLAT, âlifelessâ presentation.(note: Annieâs changing body positions from panel to panel in the same Sunday page above)
High marks !
He also executes it in an artful way, signaling to experienced readers that he has put considered âthoughtâ into the task at hand.
Amen to Sydney. The best comic strips for artistic honors, in my opinion, are Annie, Gasoline Alley, and Prince Valiant. Many are good as far as continuity and proportions are concerned and as far as the type of strip. The worst by all means has to be Dick Tracy.
Always a delight to navigate through someoneâs phoney sock puppet exchanges to get to anything related to Annie. Does all this, âHey A, howya doinâ and âgood point Bâ and âOh, so true, Câ pass for wit? âŚlet alone when it is in batches of a half dozen? Some narcissic people can be easily entertained generating the keystroke equivalent of styrofoam popcorn..
I suspect dogs and small children can pick up discordant tension in someone who is âoff.â I donât know if they understand âbadâ but they can guess the downside of âaggressionâ and âanger.â
Thanks Davidf, I truly believe what I said. While there are still a few rough edges, to my eye thereâs been significant improvement.
And this reader appreciates it.

Good Morning/evening to one and all. Yes I think Annie should keep what she knows on the QT, otherwise how could there be any adventure?

You that never had a dog would be surprised at what they can smellâlike the opening of the door of a fridge.

The old myth about throwing dogs off the sent by walking through water is just that, a myth.
Sent will blow along the surface of the water.
As for Jr. changing cloths?

Really, tell him and think it out together. A man, girl, and dog are far better than just a girl and her dog.
rotts almost 15 years ago
Since a dogâs sense of smell is something like 40,000 times more sensitive than a humanâs, maybe Sandy CAN get a scent from the drowned man.
