Pfah – you’ll burn it off in nothing flat. (At least my 8-year-old does.)

don’t worry heart, when you’re a kid you actually seem to lose weight eating food.

Not that Heart appears to have a weight problem, but being a child who was on the chubby side, I can sympathize. My parents allowed me to control my portion sizes, or I might have been in worse shape. One teacher thought it was her job to make me eat everything on my lunch plate (I don’t have a large appetite), so I frequently missed recess & possible exercise, just because I refused to clean my plate. Last day of hot lunches, she stood over me and insisted I eat while she watched. I ate, then promptly threw it back up all over the plate & table. Told Mom when I got home, and she said it served the teacher right for making me eat. (It was mashed potatoes & gravy - not exactly diet food.)

Generations of adults telling kids to clean up their plates, rattling on and on about starving kids in Africa and China, and now we have an epidemic of child obesity.

child obesity is a fairly recent phenomenon not a result of generations of adults telling their children to clean up their plates. instead of preparing healthy foods that require them to tell their children to clean their plates, many parents these days simply order stuffed crust pizza or send the kids to mac’s or burger king – that where the obesity happens.

I can sympathize – my parents were food pushers! I resisted then and still do. We sat in front of bowls of food for up to 4 hours without touching a bite (gacko stuff like liver, pablum – who even feeds that garbage to kids today). I’ve managed to maintain a reasonable weight because I dance, but occasionally do a stint with weight watchers just to keep it in check.

I agree. Some people force children to over-eat and then complain that those children need to lose weight.

As for Heart, she should not worry about looking like a model. Unfortunately, there are some children who think they have to look a certain way to be accepted.

No, if she filled it up to the sky, it’d be touching the ceiling.
