Transcript:
Mom: "Ok. That's plenty of television. Turn it off" Calvin: "I'll mope and whine and argue! I'll get in the way! I'll get in trouble! I'll tear around! You won't have a moment's peace if you make me turn off the tv!" Calvin: "I noticed she had to think about it"

At least, she cared enough to put a jacket on Calvin before kicking him out.

Not safe to leave your kids outside on their own anymore. I think that’s why parents just give their kids the iPad so they can shut up and stay put

Cop shows and news stations that just want ratings made it seem like the world is much more dangerous for kids now. Thee’s a website dedicated to allowing parents to raise free range kids:

The real question is whether she was concerned for his health or just wanted to drop kick him.

Montgomery county MD. A couple were found guilty of “unsubstantiated child neglect” for letting their two kids, age 6 and 10, walk home from a park one mile from home.

She should shoot out the TV with a .22 rifle like that mom in Illinois did the other day.

I wonder how much hang time Calvin gets when he’s pitched out like that…

In the 50s, we were kicked out after breakfast, and expected to be home at, or soon after, dark. Small town Florida, everyone knew everyone.

I think the mother’s foot in panel 3 is to illustrate the old saying of “kicking him out of the house”. There is no indication contact was made. For all we know, Calvin was trying to draw a foul, like they do in basketball. And wonder of wonders, he landed on his feet in panel 4.

We always encouraged our kids to play outside, even in the winter. We lived on a cul-de-sac, and all the neighbor kids played outside rather than wasting their time in front of the “boob tube”!.Of course today, the “boob tube” is way more portable, so even if they were outside “playing”, they likely would never actually interact with other kids also “playing” with their own “boob tubes”…

The crime rate is lower now than at any time in the history of America — in the real world. In the media, though, it’s a different story, a story that sells better.
