Missing the point here. How can saying “I’ m not gay” be construed as an insult? And at ten, that’s too early to know. Quit living in fear of offending somebody by sspeaking the truth. If the other person has an issue with it, that’s their problem.
It’s not so much the denial, but the manner in which it is voiced that worries Ozy. He doesn’t want to disclaim it VOCIFEROUSLY, because then it would imply that the very thought of being gay would be an insult to him.
Had that happen to me in college. It was because I was friends with a “gay” student. Guilt by association. I was his friend simply that and he knew I was not into his life style but nor did I condemn it.I did later however locate the source of these allegations which went a bit further than just hanging around with this guy. Showed him what a po’d ex Army Ranger can do in close quarters then made him apologize for it.
There are often two things going on here: sexual orientation and gender display. Ozzy may be too young for the first, but usually bullies are responding to not properly being “man enough.” That, and bullies just want to elevate themselves by bringing others down, and picking on anyone they think they can get away with it. Ironic that Dana made a bunny the bully jock.

Bugs Bunny kissed people all the time as an insult—-try that. (I won’t say anything about him and Elmer Fudd.)

It never ceases to amaze me that all these tolerant people who consider gays “just folks” still use homosexuality as an insult. It does not compute.
