Not only is hoof polish a real product, but it has multiple functions. Yes, it makes them shiny, good for showing. It also waterproofs the outside, good for when its very wet or muddy for a long time, helps keep everything healthy.

I’ve seen Mane ‘n’ Tail, meant for horses, on sale in K-Mart. The story I’ve heard is that people who used it on horses found that their hands were beautifully clean afterwards, tried it on themselves, and now it’s sold as a shampoo for humans!
