Extreme Wed(nesday)? Does that mean that you have to climb a really big hill to get to the end of the week? Perhaps at this time, TJ may now open his mouth and âslightlyâ suggest something about that warehouse purchase (if he even made it)âŠ.or it may somehow come up in conversation with âbright light bulbs" joyously popping up over everyoneâs headsâŠ.
Has getting married been reduced to the level of Fantasy Island, kind of an adult novelty store purchase, a âthemeâ ritual? Might as well just elope, then come back and throw a party so everyone can come and the girls can buy new, sexy dresses.
Just stand in front of a judge and do the thing⊠then if you wish, throw a large themed based reception party with all of your friends and kin⊠The ceremony isnât the most important thing⊠Itâs the life lived together afterwards that counts.
2 guys went to a Bungee jump place, and unfortunately they got a very obnoxious and notoriously macho show-off scaffolder, built like a brick outhouse and a real action man. No challenge was too much for him: windsurfing, free-fall parachuting, mountain surfing â heâd even done the Cresta Run on a hot water bottle.
The bungee ropes were suspended from an immense crane over the local docks. A lift took them up the tower to the gantry and, as luck would have it, one of the 2 friends got paired off with Mr Macho and his bragging motormouth. His ludicrous chat about how heâd seen it all before irked the instructor and the friend alike. At the top, the gloater stepped out on to the crane arm, smirking and leering at his friends below. Then the instructor shouted, âGo!â and the loudmouth leapt forward. But the instructor made as if to grab him , yelling: âNot you â I havenât tied you on properly yet!â Of course, this wasnât at all true; just the callous instructorâs bowel-loosening joke to bring the braggart back down to earth.
I still donât see why theme weddings are popular: Isnât the fact that two people found each other enough of a reason to celebrate by itself? Itâs up to the couple, it is their day, but to me a âthemeâ is a distraction.
Lol, wonder what Garfield would do, if: Odie were sitting too close to the edge of the table, Nermal somehow ended up in a box ready to go to Abu Dhabi (just needed a stamp) and 2 trays of Lasagna were âcalling out to himâ in the kitchen⊠all of this on a Monday, while he was still in his bed?
Now all our society needs is some entrepreneur to come up with a fantasy/dream/themed Divorce party for when the happily married couple decide that it isnât going to work out like Disney⊠-âHappily Ever After is only for stories that havenât finished yet.â <from Mr. & Mrs. Smith>
Whatâs wrong with putting your heads together and creating your own wedding? When my wife and I got married, I was working for a hockey team so I suggested, âWhy not get married at center ice before a game?â She actually went for it, so we went ahead and planned it ourselves: Red carpet to center ice, players forming an arch with their sticks on either side, a lap around the ice on the back of the Zamboni after the âI doâsâ were doneâŠthe whole kahuna. The league president was one of the 1,000 people in the stands, the local paper ran a BIG picture of us walking back through the arch that the AP picked up and the whole thing cost about $1,000 (reception included). The team folded two years later but weâre still together after 23 years.
Wanna bet that next week Mom and Dad will offer to let them use their backyard and TJ will cater it? Greg is really telegraphing his next move here. I think they would be better off going with the bungee jump wedding instead.
I vote for âwedding planner and online ordained ministerâ TJ taking charge. Of course, the wedding will be in Bradâs backyard (Stone Soup is heading down the same path â when was the last time a comic strip wedding took place in a church?), and obviously Bradâs parents will have to pay for pretty much everything
Hey, allâŠSome have said that Brad and Toni donât have much money, and Bradâs parents would have to pay for most or all of the weddingâŠThey both are firefighters, gainfully employed. Why would they not have the ability to set some money aside for their wedding? Am I missing some plot point that would explain why at least a few folks on here have said that? Just curious⊠Thanks for filling in that blank for me.
would you expect logic in married with children or in 2 and a half men?, if we had complete logicâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠ Quill would have been able to make Luann confident and sure of herself, =as she actually listened to him; instead of being jealous of Tiff, and Gunther would have been able to convince Rosa that she would help more the village with education at college and being part of a big organization that helps villages instead of all by herself
@wl. Let me reassure you that everyone here knows that these are not real people. Cartoons are a form of storytelling.
Every culture in the world tells stories. The point of a story is to suspend disbelief in it, so as to identify with the characters, so that their experiences become yours. This offers something called âvicarious experienceâ where, to your mind, itâs as if something happened to you, minus actual repercussions. The result is that you can boost the rate at which you mature and grow, without actual risk.In this particular story-arc of Brad and Toni, it gives the mind practice with the idea, âI can say no to other peopleâs plans and go my own way.â We all know this on a conscious level, but reading and laughing about Brad and Toniâs adventuresâas story characters that we experienceâgives us practice with the idea to help make it a habitâwithout going through the actual exhaustion of checking out many wedding venues.
KISS principle, my friends. Skip the professional (read: give me lots of your money!) âwedding plannersâ and just do it as simply as suits you! Church or justice of the peace, elope or have close friends and family at a small ceremony; but just do it!
Iâm going to have to disagree, here. I think thereâs much more mileage that can be had from this arc. I donât think the wedding will be tied to the 30yr anniversary. We already know from Greg to âexpect some drama and traumaâ in re: the wedding. A bit difficult if they elope. And not enough time to set it up (2 weekday strips). I can see them doing the wedding, perhaps in early April, on the anniversary of the proposal/acceptance. But, more likely, Iâm thinking some time this summer (June bride and all that)âŠ
either next week is Lue and Q, or Brad and Toni will be telling his family that they have date and place of their vows, the thing is certain is that Tuesday has to be with at least one Degroot if not all 4 of them
Itâs too close to April 1 â the anniversary of both their engagement and Bradâs proposal the year prior. You COULD be right, but considering the timing Iâm thinking small, quickie wedding in the DeGrootâs yard, with TJ officiating via his Universal Life Church âordainmentâ (heâs gotta get out of paying taxes somehow), on April 1.
I found the Garfield one funny and believable, as Garfield was having a âsleepwalking nightmareâ and as I said, we canât think of Luann as âCosby showâ or âmarried with childrenâ but more toward â2 and a half menâ kind of serious but here and there things we would not expect in real life to happen
