And the ‘cents’ note in the second frame is very similar to the traditional bass clef mark “C:”, so perhaps part of the joke is the transition from treble clef to alternate form of bass clef to plain dollar-sign?
So in Norway, does this comic use the Euro symbol? Nope. But then, Norway is not part of the EU. Still, this joke could be used again for a “Wealthy Musicians of the World” theme.
What I’m scratching my head about is what’s in the hat. I suppose the brown paper is sort of greenish so it could be dollars (-but it’s in the ¢ frame). But what on earth is that puffy white stuff supposed to be? Looks like cotton in the hat but the spilled bits look like feathers.
The cent sign in panel 2 can be read as a “cut time” time signature, equivalent, usually, to a time signature of 2/2. It’s only when you realize what’s happened to the hat in each of the panels that you can take the cut time signature as a cents sign.
Some music uses a similar “c” symbol as a time signature to indicate 4 beats to a measure. I know this, therefore I laughed. But I bet Horace would make more money if his guitar was plugged in.

Please forgive me, everybody. Sometimes my love for listening to people scratching their heads overtakes me.

I would think Horace’s marefriend would do better at this.

Also, he’s playing an electric bass guitar, unamplified. Would you pay to not hear that?

For some reason Wednesday’s DSotH hasn’t updated. Anyway, it’s a rerun. New stuff tomorrow.
