Too late Frank – many of them do not know how to live now, even with the gadgets. They simply exist – walking the walk with their heads down.

And what do you do when the phone dies and there is nowhere to reconnect it? How are you then going to figure out how to build a solar panel and wire up a slew of adaptors so you know how to butcher and salt-preserve the deer you just caught? For the vegetarians: it is a good mushroom or poisonous mushroom?

Toby might be a bit old for this, but ……….. join the Boy Scouts. It won’t make you completely capable of self-reliance in nature, but it will teach you a lot of valuable skills and just plain facts.

if the computer quits working, can’t you just hook it up to a printer and print it all out?

I have two flashlights that use copper/magnet induction and can recharge cell phones. (one I have to shake, the other needs to be cranked.)of course if the internet is down – you could still call people…. I guess….

Ha, reminds me of an exchange with some friends, after I’d constructed something particularly useful. They said that I was the handiest person they know, and in the event of zombie apocalypse they’d be coming to hide out at my house, figuring that’d give them the best chance of survival.

I replied: “You do realize I’m a lot less smart without the internet, right?”
