Broomie doesn’t need a cat. Something which returns offers of affection with total indifference, if not utter contempt? She gets enough of that from the dating scene.

fritz, you don’t know cats. If you don’t care (which you obviously don’t) they aren’t going to follow you around trying to make you care. If you do, they’re as loving as any dog every will be.

what’s racist about a BORDER collie??

Cats are individuals. I have had cats that wouldn’t allow anyone to even touch them… and others that couldn’t get enough loving.

One thing I like about having cats as pets is that they are less work than dogs are. I had dogs most of my life, but am now at a time when I can no longer care for one properly, so I just have my two cats. I don’t think that I could bear to be entirely without a pet.

Cats are the ideal rainy day pet. No walks and a couple scoops dumped in a leftover grocery sack.

Had both cats and dogs and wouldn’t want to be without one, either, Maizing. (U of M?)

I’ve known lots of cats, and have lived in close quarters with quite a few. I understand them very well, but still dislike them. I’ve known exactly one cat who was as affectionate as a moderately friendly dog, and she was an exception.

By nature, dogs (as a species) are social. By nature, cats (as a species) are solitary. The very traits that others hold up as the virtues of cats are those I find off-putting, and I’m sure others feel the same about dogs. But to quote Rob in Get Fuzzy, “Face it, Bucky. Most people’s favorite cats are the ones who act like dogs.”
