Although I never saw my children trying to eat from a bowl like a dog, it was something I tried to do myself. The weird thing about this confession is that I was in my twenties when I did it!
For us we never had a pet for our children but our son did the same when a toddler he thought was funny. Then visiting a family member took then off guard the strangest look. We told our son long before not to drink like a dog he never age his food on the floor. He thought being a clown or funny jokester.
Our kids never tried eating that way, but would lie on the floor when pets were eating or drinking and giggle at the way their tongues curled under to form a ladle to convey it into the mouth.

In our family, we set the cat dish on the table, and pulled up a high chair for kitty – who was quite happy to eat with the family.
